Murano Chandelier, Palazzino, Attard

 Murano Chandelier, Attard

Every time a Murano chandelier is handed to us for restoration, we get extremely excited. Murano chandeliers are made up of very delicate singular Venetian glass pieces that are that are mouth blown and carefully crafted individually, to then become a large unified glass masterpiece once assembled. This particular project consisted of a deep restoration of a late 18th century chandelier. What made it more exciting was the fact that every single glass piece was wrapped in newspapers and stored in cardboard boxes for several years. We did not have the opportunity to see the entire piece before we assembled it ourselves.

The restoration process started with the careful unwrapping of every single glass piece, which was examined for cracks and breakages. We then carefully cleaned every individual glass piece which had darkened and lost the vibrancy of their colour. The metal structure needed to be sand blasted and treated against rust. It was then plated in brass and lacquered to extend its longevity by multiple generations. We rewired the chandelier in order to fit it with safe electrical wiring that conform with current standards.

Assembling the chandelier was like putting together a very large jigsaw puzzle, that started taking shape very gradually. The glass pieces finally came together and once installed on site, the chandelier exuded colour and illumination into the beautiful hall of this Palazzino. This beautiful Murano masterpiece will remain one of our firm favourites.
